The Next Step
The Next Step at Camp Broadway is a musical theater intensive designed to give experienced teen performers, ages 14 to 17, a taste of what Broadway life is all about: refining technique and performance, growing personally as artists, experiencing New York City, and making lifelong friends.
Set in the heart of Broadway, this 5-day intensive emphasizes both the collective experience of the ensemble, as well the discovery of your individual gifts and interests as an actor, singer, and dancer. Taught by true Broadway professionals in real Broadway venues and rehearsal spaces, The Next Step program culminates in a dazzling cabaret-style showcase!
Download the registration form above. Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis. There is no audition required to participate. Contact Holly Grant at email@example.com or 716-829-1171 for more information.
2019 Camp Theme:
The registration fee for this camp is $800 per camper. Need-based scholarships are available. Lunch, snacks, and water are provided for campers every day.
The Next Step will run Monday-Friday from 9:00 am until 5:30 pm at Shea's 710 Theatre. A detailed daily schedule will be available closer to the week of camp.
What should my child wear?
Upon sign-in, your child will be given two Camp Broadway t-shirts in the size you indicated on the application. Program participants are required to wear a Camp Broadway t-shirt each day of camp. All other clothing should be comfortable and non-constricting dance-like or exercise-like. Any shorts worn must at least reach mid-thigh in length. You may choose sneakers or soft-soled dance shoes for footwear. It’s recommended that campers rehearse in the footwear they will be wearing in the performance. Jeans, flip-flops, sandals, and platform shoes may not be worn.
For the performance, campers should be in dressy blacks.
Who can participate?
The Next Step accepts up to 35 aspiring teen performers between the ages of 14-17 who have previous on-stage experience. There is no audition required to participate, but there will be auditions early in the week to determine solos and group placement. All audition songs and dances will be taught at camp so there is no need to bring a prepared piece.
How is The Next Step different from the Mainstage camp?
Camp Broadway's The Next Step focuses on individual and small group coaching and character study rather than larger ensemble-based work. The Next Step is also theme-based rather than show-based, so campers will learn more about an individual artist's body of work rather than an individual show.
The Next Step will culminate in a cabaret-style musical presentation. The Family Finale will take place at Shea's 710 Theatre on Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
